Making a Claim on Your Warranty
Consumer Goods & Services
Before making a warranty claim, it’s important to carefully read the warranty’s terms and conditions. The fine print often explains who can make a claim and what is required. For example, some warranties only allow the original purchaser to file a claim unless “third-party rights” are included. This is especially important if you bought the item second-hand or received it as a gift.
You should also check the time limits, warranties expire, and confirm whether you will be responsible for any postage, packaging, or transportation costs, particularly if the item must be sent overseas for repair or replacement.
When you are ready to make a claim, you will usually need to provide:
Proof of purchase, such as a receipt showing where and when the item was bought;
Details about the issue you are experiencing; and
A copy of the warranty or guarantee.
