Legal Rights & Warranties

Consumer Goods & Services

Whether you can rely on a warranty often depends on when you try to return or repair the item and what kind of fault it has. That’s why it’s important to review the warranty’s terms and conditions so you know how to make a claim and how long the coverage lasts. Your warranty or guarantee may be printed on your receipt, included in an email, or provided as a separate document, and it should explain how long it’s valid and what you’re entitled to such as a repair, replacement, or refund.

If you can’t find your warranty, contact the business that sold you the item and ask for a copy or for the manufacturer’s details. If your warranty has expired or doesn’t apply to the issue, for example, if repair work was done outside the warranty you may need to rely on your rights under Bermuda’s consumer protection laws, including the Consumer Protection Act 1999, the Sale of Goods Act 1978, and the Supply of Services (Implied Terms) Act 2003.
